What are dyes? What are its types?

Dyes are mostly derived from chemicals that come from petroleum or coal. Some of the dyes are made from natural substances and some of them are mixture of natural & chemical substances. Natural dyes are obtained from plants and animal substances. Dyes are of many types such as acid dyes, basic dyes, fiber dyes, natural dyes and union dyes. Acid dyes are water soluble and are used to color fabrics like silk, wool and nylon. Basic dyes are used with acetic acid to dye acrylic fabrics. Synthetic dyes are more popular than natural dye because of the various colors they offer and they are cheaper and better than the natural ones.
